Post World War II, London was struck by a housing crisis. In desperate need for housing, the city hired Erno Goldfinger - an expert in high-rise buildings - to design three housing towers: Trellick Tower 1, Balfron Tower3 and Carradale House4. After his death, Goldfinger’s studio designed Glenkerry House 2 adjacent to Balfron Tower and Carradale House, creating a mini Goldfinger campus. Glenkerry House was designed with an assemblage of Goldfinger characteristics from his previous projects, and so we decided to break down all his projects down and create a “kit of parts” in the form of a catalogue: the head, the tower, the bridge, the façade and the plinth. With this “kit of parts” we decided to expand the campus in Poplar by bringing in Trellick tower and by creating new buildings using our catalogue in the hope of creating a small city inspired by the ideals of Goldfinger, something we called The Erno Goldfinger City.
