Timber in the city, was based on the national competition introduced in the housing studio semester. The goal was to create a mass timber housing complex in Queens, New York. The Site is Located in an undeserved area that is starting to undergo gentrification near the waterfront. Our goal was to develop a mixed program community at the sites scale and the individuals scale. Our Research was focused on program typologies within the site, and its effects on each other. The housing composed of three main programs, housing of units, a wellness center, and a daycare. The design is composed of two main timber components, a shell and prefabricated units that interlocks itself with the shell and floor plates. Units were then separated from each other to create a weave of space in the hallways that acts like a shared backyard space. Larger building programs were spaced out to again create a webbed system, but maintain the axis of the site.
